Order of the Bell Tower
As the oldest GAA-sponsored student group, Order of the Bell Tower (OBT) serves as the official student ambassadors and tradition keepers to the University. Through our programs and services, we strive to connect past, present and future Tar Heels. The Order of the Bell Tower was chartered in the fall 1980 under the auspices of the General Alumni Association. Recognizing the need to strengthen the relationship between Carolina students and alumni, GAA Assistant Director Bo Dunlap '64 and Student Body President Bob Saunders '81 initiated the idea and organized this group. In recognition of its far-reaching influence in the University community, OBT members were named by the Chancellor in 1982 to serve as the official student ambassadors for the University. Because of this honor, OBT members have had the opportunity to serve at Chancellor receptions, luncheons and other campus events. These events have provided unique opportunities for students, alumni and University administrators to interact and collectively promote Carolina.
