Monday, October 31

BAR/GEAR UP Early Outreach Day (Student Union)
In collaboration with Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) and other UNC system institutions, the UNC Black Alumni Reunion  Committee is sponsoring this day-long campus visitation and college information program targeting 9th-grade minority students from across the state. Students will tour campus, interact with current college students and participate in sessions related to career exploration. GEAR UP NC is administered by the UNC System Office of the President.

10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Black Male Forum: How I See Me, How They See Me
(Stone Center)
In collaboration with Carolina Panther Julius Peppers '02 and his Rites of Passage Project, the Black Alumni Reunion Committee will facilitate a 7th - 8th grade after-school enrichment program for young black males from the Triangle area.

And the Children Shall Lead
(Stone Center)
Join us as we view and discuss the critically acclaimed documentary, And the Children Shall Lead, written by Emma E. Pullen '75, Academy Award nominee.  This event is co-sponsored by the BAR Committee, the Sonya Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History, Carolina's Women's Center and the NAACP

NPHC Homecoming Step Show (Memorial Hall)

The UNC National Pan-Hellenic Council will sponsor the annual Homecoming Step Show featuring step teams from the nine historically black Greek fraternities and sororities. Contact the Union Box Office (919) 962-1449 to purchase tickets.

Friday, November 4
9 a.m.
Golf Tournament (Mill Creek Golf and Country Club)
Mill Creek Golf and Country Club is a new championship course played by PGA golfers. With bent grass greens, Bermuda fairways and a signature 18th hole (428 yd. Par 4 with choice of two fairways) this course is sure to challenge. This year's format will be a scramble (captain's choice) which will suit beginners to advanced Tiger Annika-types! Awards will be given for longest drive and closest to the pin as well as raffle prize opportunities for all. A sports memorabilia silent auction, delicious country cooking and the chance for serious bragging rights make the 25th BAR Anniversary Golf Tournament the perfect event to start the weekend. Oh, did we mention the Cadillac as the hole-in-one prize?

Partner Lunch (Carolina Club)
In today's job market it's not always what you know, but who you know. The Partner Lunch will provide current Carolina undergraduates the opportunity to network with alumni from various educational backgrounds and career fields. This event is a collaborative venture with the UNC Diversity and Multicultural Affairs Office and the Office for Student Academic Counseling.

It's your one-stop-shop for BAR event tickets and reunion souvenirs.  The BAR committee and GAA staff will be on hand to answer your questions, to provide updated information about Homecoming events and to make sure you have everything you need for a great weekend.

6 p.m.
The New Memorial Hall -- A Private Tour (Memorial Hall)
Re-opening after a two-year hiatus, join Executive Director for the Arts Emil Kang for a private tour of Memorial Hall - offered exclusively to returning alumni and friends.  Mr. Kang will be accompanied by artists from the acclaimed South African Handspring Puppet Company and Sogolon Puppet Company of Mali who will perform Tall Horse on the Memorial stage November 5-6.  Guests will enjoy beverages and appetizers.  Attendance is limited to 50.

6 p.m. - 2 a.m.
Tar Heel Kids Camp (activities are on campus)
Allow your child the opportunity to experience some of the best that Carolina has to offer.  Camp activities will be held on Friday and Saturday and you may sign up for one or both days.  Upon registration, we will send you additional information for completion.  Registration is open to the first 60 children (ages 5-12).  All camp activities will take place on campus. Join us as we pay homage to the life and legacy of Harvey E. Beech '52 (LLB).  We'll also honor the 2005 Harvey E. Beech recipients.  This year's awardees are Thurbert Baker '75, William H. Fuller, Jr. '86, John L. Johnson '74 and Jon M. Regis '73.  The Outstanding Faculty/Staff Award will be presented to James H. Johnson, the William Rand Kenan, Jr., Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship.  The Harvey E. Beech Outstanding Senior award will be presented to Derwin Debose '06.  E-mail bar@unc.edu for information regarding table sponsorships.

Enjoy a post-game reception with Coach Roy Williams '72 and Voice of the Tar Heels, Woody Durham '63. Complimentary dessert buffet and beverages will be served.  This event is a GAA member exclusive.  Attendance is limited to 250.  GAA members may attend and bring up to 3 guests from the same household (1 adult, 2 children).

Class of '85 Friday Late Night (Hilton RDU/RTP)

Get your groove on during Friday Late Night hosted by the class of '85 and listen to the smooth sounds of the Charles Band & Show as they perform Jazz, R&B and Hip Hop from the 70's, 80's, 90's and now. Hosted by Brian Ellerby '85, Kenny Flowers '85, Joy Paige '85 and Melvin "Skeet" Williams '85.

Carolina Hip-Hop First Friday (Spice Street)
No one does First Friday like Carolina.  Join fellow alumni for the hottest Hip Hop First Friday in the Triangle.  This one is for the grown and sexy - no timbs, no athletic wear.  Classes of 1995 through 2005 this one is for us. All classes are welcome!

Saturday, November 5
8 a.m.
Ram Run (Trails Around Finley Golf Course)
Run the trails at this 6th annual 5k as we traverse the winding scenic paths used by Carolina's best athletes.  Located within the forests surrounding Finley Golf Course, this natural terrain provides varying inclines against a canopy of fall colors.  All are welcome but best suited for the active jogger. Signature acknowledging risk and waiver disclaimer will be required.  Medals, beverages and a light snack provided upon completion.

Unsung Founders Memorial Dedication

The Class of 2002 Unsung Founders Memorial has been prominently installed on the McCorkle Place lawn in front of the Alumni Building. This memorial honors those men and women of color - enslaved and free - who helped build the Carolina we all know and love.

10 - 11:30 a.m.
Bell Tower Climb (Bell Tower)

The Morehead-Patterson Bell Tower is one of Carolina's most beloved landmarks.  Take this opportunity to climb four levels and get a campus view few get to enjoy.

Tailgate Party (Tar Heel Town on main quad)

Gather with classmates and friends as we enjoy good food, the Marching Tar Heels and other pre-game activities at Tar Heel Town. Menu favorites will include fried fish, hamburgers, hot dogs, green beans, baked beans, potato salad, cole slaw, rolls, hush puppies, desserts and beverages.

12 noon 
UNC vs. Boston College (Kenan Stadium)

Boston College will visit Kenan Stadium in a rematch of last year's Continental Tire Bowl.  Let's TURN IT BLUE  and cheer the Tar Heels to victory!

GAA Post-Game Reception (Rams Head Courtyard)
Tar Heel fans can enjoy complimentary refreshments and tours of the new dining hall, arcade and recreation facilities at the Rams Head Center.  Arcade game cards will be given to the first 100 GAA members (GAA member card required).  No registration required, just stop by.

4 p.m. - 3 a.m.
Tar Heel Kids Camp

Camp activities continue and registration is open to the first 60 children (ages 5-12). All camp activities will take place on campus. Schedule of Kids Camp Activities

Seasoned Tar Heel Reception (Hilton RDU/RTP)

Join classes from the 70's as they reminisce about the early days in Chapel Hill.  Your hosts for the evening, Calvin Blanton '76,  Angela Bryant '73, Karen Dacons-Brock '74, Dolores Jones Faison '74, Harry Jones '72, Carolyn Bullock Malloy '77, Allen Mask '74, Phillip McAlpin '75, Paula Newsome '77, Moses Parker '76, Jon "Bushy" Regis '73, Bruce Sampson '74, Ellis Stanley '73, Jackie Edwards Walton '77 and Louis Woodruff '74 invite you to celebrate the "great beginnings on the Hill."

Tall Horse-Handspring & Sogolon Puppet Companies
               

Tall Horse features astonishing puppet figures includeing a giant king and a sixteen-foot giraffe.  Based on a true story, Tall Horse explores Africa's influence on the West from an African perspective.  Magical, inventive and satirical, the multi-media human/habitable puppet theater work is produced by the acclaimed South African Handspring Puppet Company combining South African artistry with centuries-old cultural practices from Mali.  For ticket information, contact the Union Box Office (919) 962-1449.
