What did voters have in mind when a majority cast ballots for Barack Obama? And, one year later, did they get what they wanted? The focus of the talk is the mandate - or lack thereof - of 2008 and how that has played into governance.

Lecturer: James A. Stimson '70 (Ph.D.) is Raymond Dawson Distinguished Bicentennial Professor of political science at UNC.  A fellow in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Stimson also was a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (1994-1995) and a Guggenheim Fellow (2006-2007). He has won the Heinz Eulau and Gladys Kammerer Awards of the American Political Science Association, the Chastain Award of the Southern Political Science Association and the Pi Sigma Alpha award of the Midwest Political Science Association.
