Bledsoe attended Greensboro Senior High School and McCallie Military School before entering Guilford College. He transferred to UNC in 1938 and was a senior when he was inducted into the Army in September 1940.

After training at Camp Wolters, Texas; Camp Livingstone, La.; and Fort Devens, Mass., he was sent to Australia as part of an anti-tank unit, probably with the 32nd Infantry Division. Bledsoe was killed in action against the Japanese in New Guinea on Jan. 5, 1943.
