Brian Hogan

Dr. Hogan is a  professor  and Vice Chair of Education of chemistry, the department where he received his Ph.D. in 2003. He served as the academic director for the Scholars’ Latino Initiative from 2010-2014, a program dedicated to increasing college access to Latino high school students. From 2014-2019, Brian served as the Director of the Carolina Covenant, the nation’s premier access and affordability programming.  The Covenant is a promise to provide UNC students from low socioeconomic backgrounds an opportunity to graduate debt free.  Dr. Hogan’s research focuses on increasing the number of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds graduating in the science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields. He spent the past eight years as a Thorp Faculty Engaged Scholar building “SLIence,” a collaboration with McDougle Middle School and the Chapel Hill Carrboro City School District.
