Saturday, March 17 | 2:30 – 5:30 p.m.
Triangle Curling, 2310 So Hi Drive, Durham
Price: $40; Carolina Alumni member price $25

This event has reached capacity. To be added to the waitlist email douglass_payne@unc.edu.

Curl with Tar Heels and friends on Saint Patrick’s Day as you keep the Olympic spirit alive. Have fun, and learn something new.

Triangle Curling Club volunteers will start with an off-ice introduction, then we’ll divide into teams to play a mini game. Stick around after the game to relax and talk about the ice and “good curling” in the warm room. Still undecided? Here’s a brief video to get you more excited about what curling is all about. Carolina Alumni members save $15 on this event and take home a collapsible water bottle. Become a Carolina Alumni member on the sign-up form so you don’t miss out on these great perks. Please note: minimum age to participate is 16 years old (with parent participation).

Pro tip: Curling is one of the few sports where beer is encouraged on the ice. There will be a cash bar available in the “warm room” during the event (no outside alcohol is permitted).

What Do I Wear?

It’s about 40 F on the ice. That’s cold. You’ll want to dress in layers and pack a hat and light weight gloves. Pants that allow easy movement are recommended (think gym pants or crazy-patterned pajama pants). You will be required to stretch and get into positions that may be difficult in tight pants/jeans. No raised heels. No open toes. Running/training shoes work well.

Curling Terms

No prior knowledge is needed for your Learn to Curl. There’s no pop quiz when you arrive either. But, you might want to practice these words and phrases: “Good curling!” “the house” “Hurry!” “Whoa!” “Sweeper” “Hog Line” “the hack” “the skip” “What end is it?”

Should I Bring a Broom From Home?

Unless you have an actual curling broom, please leave your personal broom at home. Curling brooms and “sliders” (for your shoe) will be provided.
