If you grew up in the Carolinas, high school graduation and summertime probably meant flocking to the beach for sun, surf and music. They say one picture is worth a thousand words. Well, that includes music, too. Grab your shaggin’ shoes, and we’ll talk bands, their tunes and their stories with lecturer Freddie Kiger ’74 (’77 MAT). Plus, enjoy a guest appearance from Atlantic Beach Shagging Hall of Famer and former UNC Athletic Director Dick Baddour ’66 (’75 MA) who’ll spin some beach music stories, share some beach music nuggets and even demonstrate a few moves. Participants are invited to share their own dance moves if so inclined.

Lecturer: Freddie Kiger ’74 (’77 MAT)

Freddie Kiger ’74 (’77 MAT) leads our N.C. History Series. Freddie has partnered with the GAA since 1995 and brings more than 40 years of teaching experience to his lectures. He has a bachelor’s degree in history and a master of arts in teaching with an emphasis in history. Freddie’s career and passion has always included sports as well as teaching. The ESPN statistician and three-time Emmy Award winner is noted for his storytelling and does just that for two popular podcasts: The GAA’s Hark the Sounds podcast and Threads from the National Tapestry, a podcast covering the American Civil War.
