Just in: Special guest Rufus Edmisten ’63 will be joining us this evening, bringing a wealth of knowledge including 10 years of service on Senator Sam Ervin’s staff that culminated with a position as deputy chief counsel to the Watergate Committee.

For the record, this Morganton native served in the U.S. Senate from 1954-74. His career spanned McCarthyism, civil rights legislation and, most famously, his televised investigation of the Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. Tonight, we tell the story of “Senator Sam,” who despite national acclaim always maintained he was just a simple “country lawyer.”
