Tar Heel Olympics: Toppling Blue Cups

Friday, July 30 – Sunday, Aug. 8
Wherever You Are

The 2020 Olympic Games are in Tokyo this year, but the Tar Heel Olympics are at your house. Compete individually or encourage your family and friends to gather up their Carolina gear and partake in a little friendly competition. Event three is Toppling Blue Cups. Get inspired.

Here’s what you need:

Plastic cups (your favorite game day cup, or those iconic He’s Not cups work too), enough to line the width of your chosen table
10+ ping pong balls
Timer

Here’s what to do:

Grab those stadium cups from the last Carolina game you cheered at or maybe a few Blue Cups from He’s Not Here (any plastic cups will work though!) and set them up along the edge of a table, leaving about two inches of space between each cup. At the other end of the table, place a container (basket, bowl, etc.) of ping pong balls.

Players go one at a time starting at the end of the table with the ping pong balls. Start a one-minute timer and roll the ping pong balls (this isn’t the Dean Dome — no bouncing or throwing) across the table at the cups to knock them off the table. Try to knock more cups off than your opponent in one minute. (Don’t have enough supplies for a minute of toppling? Race for time to see who can knock all the cups off the table fastest instead.)

During this event, be sure to record yourself competing. Post your video to our Facebook event, Tar Heel Olympics: Toppling Blue Cups, between Friday, July 30 and Sunday, Aug. 8. That’s how you’ll be counted for competing in this event. Remember, when you compete in all four events (and post the videos to prove it!), and post a photo of you wearing your printable medal by Aug. 8, a 10/10 Carolina can cooler will be mailed your way. You’ll post your event videos within each corresponding Facebook event, and your printable medal photo can be posted in whichever Facebook event you would like, as long as it gets posted. Not only will you be on your way to the epic can cooler, those with the most Carolina spirit will be in the running for additional prizes, too.
