Each October, UNC alumni and friends around the world host Tar Heel Service Day projects in honor of University Day. This year, projects will take place from Friday, Oct. 12, to Sunday, Oct. 14. Want to register your own project or to find a project near you? Visit the Tar Heel Service Day homepage.

The GAA will be hosting a service project in Chapel Hill with Get Real and Heel. Get Real and Heel helps breast cancer patients and survivors improve their health through exercise and group therapy. Individualized plans help each participant manage cancer treatment-related symptoms and increase chances of survivorship and quality of life. This program is currently provided to individuals free of charge.

There are two ways to support Get Real and Heel through our project:

  • Volunteer on site: We will be cleaning the women’s locker room and the main workout room at the Get Real and Heel facility from noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 14. Sign up to volunteer. All volunteers will receive Carolina blue Tar Heel Service Day bags.
  • Donate: Get Real and Heel is in need of Clorox wipes, tissues and Lysol to keep things clean for their immune-compromised population. Make a donation online for these supplies, or bring them by when you volunteer on site with us.

Don’t forget to post a photo on social media during this event – tag @UNCGAA, #UNCAlumni and #ServeCarolina.
