Football Tailgates

Bring your pride. Show your spirit. Tailgate with Heels.

What better way to spend a fall Saturday afternoon than to meet up with several hundred alumni and friends for a tailgate party. Tar Heels are tailgating in Norfolk, Chapel Hill and Atlanta. Parties are open to alumni, family and fans of all ages.

UNC vs. ODU Tailgate · Sept. 16

Saturday, Sept. 16 · UNC vs. Old Dominion · Norfolk, Va.

We’re headed to the beach. The Heels will visit Norfolk to take on the ODU Monarchs. Pack a beach towel, your Carolina gear and head to the Hampton Roads area. Smoked brisket and Carolina, nothing could be finer.

  • Registration for this event closed at 3 p.m. (EDT) on Wednesday, Sept. 13.
  • If available, on-site registration will be $35 ($15 for Jr. Tar Heels ages 6 -12).  Member discounts are not available for on-site registration.

  • Menu: Pulled pork, sliced brisket, sliced turkey, slaw, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, rolls, cornbread, cookies, brownies, sweet/unsweetened tea, lemonade, water and a cash bar (vegetarians item will be available)
  • Game tickets: $50 (game tickets are nonrefundable)
  • Game time: 3:30 p.m.

  • The refund deadline was Sept. 8.
  • Check in for the tailgate will be done via a registration list instead of event tickets. If you are just purchasing football tickets, your game tickets can be picked up at the tailgate location (game tickets will not be mailed).
  • A final confirmation with additional information will be sent the week of the tailgate and game.

Beat Duke Tailgate · Sept. 23

Bell Tower (Quad 2) · Time: 12:30 – 3 p.m.

Tailgate with Tar Heels beneath the Bell Tower for the Greatest Rivalry on Earth. Just steps away from Kenan Stadium, join us before the game to climb the Bell Tower, greet the team, see the Marching Tar Heels and take a visit to Tar Heel Town. We’ll be enjoying traditional tailgate fare and #BeatDuke giveaways, too.

  • Registration for this event is now closed.
  • If available, on-site registration will be $20 ($10 for Jr. Tar Heels ages 6 -12).  Member discounts are not available for on-site registration.
  • Menu: Beef and vegetarian burgers, beef hot dogs, pulled pork barbecue sandwiches, French fries, baked beans, slaw, sweet tea, lemonade and water.

Georgia Heels: We’re headed down south to battle the Yellow Jackets. Word has it, this game has been declared a white out. So you know what? We’re going to add in the loveliest shade of blue. Be loud. Be proud. Let’s turn Dodd Stadium blue.

  • There will be limited on-site registration the day of the event ($30/person)
  • Game tickets: $50  (game tickets are nonrefundable)
  • Game time: 12. p.m.
  • For registered participants, parking will be complimentary at Hudson’s Grille (about a 15 minute walk to Dodd Stadium)
  • The registration/refund deadline was Sept. 22.

Tanea has been a member of the GAA staff since 1998.  She currently serves as manager of affinity activities, overseeing affinity/special interest reunions, athletics, Homecoming, the Light on the Hill Society scholarship, local outreach and young alumni programming.  She’s a dedicated member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., carries her NOOK with her wherever she goes and has a large collection of Coca-Cola bottles from across the world in her office.
