Camp Blue Heaven

2020 Family Camp Has Been Cancelled

After reviewing all of the guidance — from the state, regarding camp operations, from the University, from Camp Cheerio – we have made the difficult decision to cancel Family Camp due to the coronavirus public health crisis.

Without certainty that we would be able to do this program exceptionally well, we have decided that the risks would be too great to go forward this year.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Family Camp in 2021!

We will update registration information on this site when we have confirmed details for next year.

Families That Attended in 2019

April 13, 2020 – Registration tentatively opens to all families that attended in 2019.  (As mentioned above, we are delaying the registration process for Family Camp due to the coronovirus pandemic.  We will contact families who attended in 2019 and update this webpage for new families to register once we open registration for 2020.)

Please make sure that you mark your calendars to register your family for camp during these dates. Families that miss this registration window will be allowed to register during the registration windows for phase 2 and 3; however, they will have the same priority as other families registering during the same period.

The registration link will be emailed to 2018 camp families on Monday, March 25. To ensure that you receive this email, please review and update your current contact information on file with the GAA.  Click here for details on how to do this.

All Other Families

April 20, 2020 – Registration tentatively opens to all interested families.  Please Note:  We are delaying the registration process for Family Camp due to the coronovirus pandemic.

The registration link will be posted at the top of this page once it opens.   If demand exceeds space available on camp at this stage, families will be placed on the 2020 waiting list. All families in this category will be notified by a date TBD (and provided here once decided).

All families are encouraged to consider the “non-lodging/day camp” registration option.

Day Camp (lodging offsite) Option - Open to Everyone

The opportunity to register for Camp Blue Heaven with the “non-lodging/day camp” option is open to all.  “Day Campers” participate in all meals and activities as the on-site campers; the only difference is that “day campers” have made their own sleeping accommodations elsewhere.  The closest lodging option is the High Meadows Inn, located just a few miles from Camp Cheerio.

To register using the “day camp” option, please select this option while completing the online registration form.

Joe returned to Carolina as Coordinator of Outreach in 2019 after graduating in 2013 and spending a combined six years in admissions both at Carolina and elsewhere. Born into a Tar Heel family in Virginia, Joe has come to embrace the entire state of North Carolina, and not just UNC, as his home which he shares with his wife and son. He is earning his master’s degree studying the University’s and the state’s history. When it comes to North Carolina barbecue, Joe adamantly believes that vinegar-based is better than tomato-based, but tomato-based is still superior to what all the other states are making.
