The Battle of Cowpens, January 17, 1781, occurred during the latter part of the Crown’s   Southern Campaign and its outcome served as a turning point for the war in the South.  This class will highlight the story of General Daniel Morgan’s amazing victory—the only double envelopment of the American Revolution and a battle which eventually pushed the Lord Charles Cornwallis’ invasion into North Carolina.

Lecturer: Fred W. Kiger ’74 (’77 MAT) leads our NC History field-study programs and teaches several GAA courses each semester. He is the creator of the field guide The Civil War: A History of the War Between the States (Workman) and has two degrees from UNC, a bachelor’s in history and a master of arts in teaching with an emphasis in history.
