Membership FAQ

Who can join the GAA?

Membership is open to all graduates, former students, current students, parents, faculty, staff and friends of Carolina. Join online or call us at (800) 962-0742. We accept VISA, MasterCard and American Express. For no additional fee, we can also set up your annual membership to auto renew each year. It ensures that your GAA annual membership never lapses. We also have convenient monthly debit programs for life membership.

Why should I become a member?

Alumni activities, communications and services are not a line item in the University budget but are funded by Carolina Alumni member dues. If you think this mission of serving our University and keeping alumni informed and involved is worth supporting, membership is for you. In addition, you can take pride in knowing that your Carolina Alumni member dues contribute to the continued progress of our University through scholarship support, student recruitment and legislative advocacy. Your membership matters.

What are the benefits of membership?

Our membership benefits include a subscription to the print and digital editions of the Carolina Alumni Review, a Carolina calendar, a complimentary career coaching session, online privileges, discounts and more. View a complete list of our member benefits.

Can my membership be discounted if my spouse is already a member?

Yes. If your spouse is an annual member of the GAA, you can become a member for only $10. If your spouse is a life member of the Association, you can become a life member for only $300. Select the add your spouse option.

Many couples sign up for a joint membership to show extra support for Alumni Association programs. Also certain benefits, including the complimentary session with the career coach, program discounts and library card eligibility, are non-transferable and cannot be redeemed by anyone besides the Carolina Alumni member.

How do I qualify for joint membership?

Joint membership requires that alumni records are linked together as spouse/partner records. All alumni directories/rosters (printed and online) will reflect a spouse/partner relationship between two joint members.

How can I get a decal, replacement member card, mailing labels or life certificate?

Carolina Alumni members have easy access to their member card when they download and log in to the Carolina Alumni app. If you need a paper card or other items, place an online order, call (800) 962-0742 or send an email to Replacement items will be provided at no additional cost. Complimentary labels are available to auto renewing annual members and life members upon request.

Are membership dues tax deductible?

The GAA makes no representation regarding the tax deductibility of dues.  Please consult your personal tax adviser.

How can I update my official alumni record?

Contact our Alumni Records department at the GAA at (877) 377-7125 or update your record online.

Where can I find my UNC personal identification (PID) number?

Your PID can be retrieved here. It is also located above your name on most mailings from the GAA including the Carolina Alumni Review.

Will membership in the GAA improve ticket assignments for athletic events?

The GAA is a not-for-profit, self-governed membership organization that supports the University, fosters alumni fellowship and provides information and activities.

The GAA should not be confused with offices that handle fund raising for the University such as the The Rams Club (also know as the Educational Foundation), the Advancement Office, or any other University program or foundation. Please contact The Rams Club for information about ticket assignments to athletic events.
