This year’s 24-hour fundraising event, held from 7 p.m. Feb. 23 to 7 p.m. the next day, generated a record $236,876.12 for the N.C. Children’s Hospital with the help of 674 dancers.
Last year’s event raised $201,141.90. The money will be directed to the For the Kids Fund and to help pay expenses that families of children at the hospital incur that are not covered by insurance or Medicaid. Such expenses include electric bills, car repairs and mortgage payments.
UNC students have held the Dance Marathon since 1999, raising a total of nearly $1.3 million.
