Kevin Guskiewicz will be installed as 12th chancellor of the University on Sunday, Oct. 11, as part of a two-day University Day observance.

This 3 p.m. event will be aired on the University’s YouTube channel and will feature live and recorded content, including brief remarks from Gov. Roy Cooper ’79 (’82 JD), UNC System President Peter Hans ’91 and faculty, staff and student leaders. In a keynote address, Chancellor Guskiewicz will share his vision for the University’s future. A watch party will track locations of those signing up to attend and will be updated until Oct. 11. You can sign up on the installation website and access a map highlighting locations of those watching the event. Those who register will get email reminders and other content prior to the ceremony.

The link to the ceremony will be available at installation.unc.edu.

University Day, UNC’s 227th birthday, will be observed the next day without the traditional ceremonial event in Memorial Hall, but via the University’s own media and social media platforms. Classes will be held as scheduled.

The University will present Distinguished Alumna and Alumnus Awards to six recipients: Anubha Anand ’95, Dr. Francis Collins ’77 (MD), Mary Estes ’72 (PhD), Daniel Patterson ’55 (MA, ’59 PhD), Peter Skillern ’92 (MRP) and Marla Smith-Nilson ’94 (MS).

Nick Didow ’70 (’73 MBA), associate professor of marketing in the Kenan-Flagler Business School, will receive the Edward Kidder Graham Faculty Service Award.

The Employee Forum will present its inaugural Rebecca Clark Staff Award for Moral Courage to James Holman, crew leader in Housekeeping Services. Clark, a former UNC staff member, African American political activist and civil rights organizer, fought against unequal pay and workplace discrimination.
