Read MoreAli Farahnakian ’90 has debuted his People’s Improv Theater — otherwise known as the PIT — in Chapel Hill. Farahnakian, a former Saturday Night Live performer who has two PIT locations in New York, opened the third in the building that most recently housed the DSI Comedy Theater. DSI closed in August after 17 years in Carrboro and Chapel Hill.
The PIT also offers instruction in improvisational comedy and other comedic arts. Farahnakian, who also studied sketch writing at The Second City improv in Chicago, in 2016 received the John L. Haber [’70] Award for Contribution to the Arts, given by the GAA’s New York Carolina Club, UNC’s drama department and Carolina Performing Arts. Farahnakian was profiled in the November/December 2016 Review, available at alumni.unc.edu/CARarchive.
