These facts on the entering freshman class are estimates from the UNC Office of Undergraduate Admissions, based on information as of July 1:

• 19,036 students applied; 6,705, or 35.2 percent, were admitted; approximately 3,580 students are expected to enroll
• 38.9 percent ranked 10th or higher in their graduating high school classes; 5.7 percent ranked first
• 74.5 percent ranked in the top 10 percent of their classes
• 92.7 percent ranked in the top 20 percent
• The middle 50 percent of enrolling students scored between 1220-1390 on the SAT
• 80.5 percent had grade-point averages of 4.0 or higher
• 18 percent are from outside North Carolina (the legal limit)
• 11.2 percent are African-American
• 7.7 percent are Asian-American
• 3.7 percent are Hispanic
