• 29,507 applied for admission

• 7,855, or 26.6 percent, were admitted

•  3,928, or 50 percent, are expected to enroll

•  56.8 percent female, 41.4 percent male

•  17.7 percent of those enrolling are the first in their families to go to college

•  1938: average SAT score (perfect is 2400); section averages: 644 critical reading, 659 math and 1304 critical reading and math combined

•  Admitted freshmen come from 97 N.C. counties, 43 states  and 29 other countries

Of those who reported their graduating class ranks:

• 43.1 percent were in the top 10
• 12.6 percent were first or second
• 78.8 percent were in the top 10 percent
