The Class of 2017

• 30,836 applied for admission

• 8,238, or 26.7 percent, were admitted

•  3,960, or 48 percent, are expected to enroll

•  59.3 percent female, 40.7 percent male

•  17.7 percent of those enrolling are the first in their families to go to college

•  1948: average SAT score (perfect is 2400); section averages: 647 critical reading, 661 math and 1309 critical reading and math combined

•  Admitted freshmen come from 95 N.C. counties, 45 states  and 20 other countries

 Of those who reported their graduating class ranks:

• 43.7 percent were in the top 10
• 13.6 percent were first or second
• 78.4 percent were in the top 10 percent
