The Class of 2022

  • 43,472 applied for admission (6 percent more than last year and the 13th consecutive year in which applications have increased)

  • 9,519, or 22 percent, were admitted

  • 4,295 are expected to enroll

  • 62 percent female, 38 percent male

  • 21 percent of those enrolling are first-generation college students, coming from families where a parent has not graduated from a four-year school

  • Admitted freshmen come from 97 N.C. counties, including 40 percent from rural N.C. counties; 43 states and the District of Columbia; and 38 other countries

  • 800 students are entering Carolina as transfer students

Of those who reported their graduating class ranks:

  • 45 percent were in the top 10

  • 78 percent were in the top 10 percent
