Two Alumni Among Six New Members of BOG

Six new members were elected to four-year terms on the UNC System Board of Governors in June. Two UNC alumni are among the six: Frank Daniels Jr. ’53 of Raleigh, former publisher of The News & Observer; and Dr. Cheryl Ransom Locklear ’79 (DDS), a dentist from Red Springs. The other four members are Ann B. Goodnight of Cary; Clarice Cato Goodyear of Matthews; Ronald C. Leatherwood of Waynesville; and Marshall B. Pitts Jr., former mayor of Fayetteville.

The new members, who are elected by the N.C. General Assembly, fill six of the 16 open seats. The rest were re-elected. UNC alumni re-elected were Brent D. Barringer ’81 of Cary; Peter D. Hans ’91 of Raleigh; G. Leroy Lail ’61 of Hickory; and Priscilla P. Taylor ’66 of Greensboro. The others are R. Steve Bowden of Greensboro, John W. Davis III of Winston Salem, Charles A. Hayes of Raleigh, Adelaide D. Key of Asheville, Gladys Ashe Robinson of Greensboro and Estelle “Bunny” Sanders of Pleasant Garden.
