Bill Friday, Hugh Morton to Speak at Spring Reunions Weekend

All members of the Carolina community are invited to participate in programs and activities sponsored by the UNC General Alumni Association as part of the Spring Reunions 2004 weekend on May 7-9.

Many of the events planned for this year’s reunions, with special activities for the class years 1954, 1959 and 1964, are open to the public. Some events have a fee. The weekend includes Commencement ceremonies on May 9 for UNC’s class of 2004.

Public events offered at no charge include fireworks at Boshamer Stadium on Friday, May 7, at 9:30 p.m. following the UNC-Maryland baseball game.

Other events on Saturday, May 8, include:

  • Presentations by several of Carolina’s faculty and alumni. Among those, William Friday ’48 (LLB), president emeritus of the UNC System, and noted photographer Hugh Morton ’43 will discuss Morton’s recently published book, Hugh Morton’s North Carolina, at 9:30 a.m. in Murphy Hall Auditorium. There is no charge for this program.
  • The Annual Alumni Luncheon at the George Watts Hill Alumni Center. The luncheon, which begins at 12:15 p.m., includes a performance by the UNC Clef Hangers and the presentation of the 2004 Distinguished Service Medals to five alumni: Vaughn Bryson ’60 and Nancy Bryson ’60 of Vero Beach, Fla.; Marjorie Bryan Buckley ’62 of Bethlehem, Pa.; David Frey ’64 of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and Willis Whichard ’62, who also earned his law degree from UNC in 1965, of Chapel Hill. There is a $20 fee for the lunch.
