Alumni Message Boards Policy

The UNC General Alumni Association, a self-governed association, maintains these message boards for use by the GAA community. If you have any questions regarding message boards, please contact gaa-online@unc.edu.

The message board policy may be revised at any time. Please check this page regularly for the most current policy.

Alumni message boards are for the enjoyment of members of the GAA Online Community, including members of the GAA. We encourage an open and honest exchange of ideas and expect all users of the message boards to respect the rights of others. GAA staff members monitor messages posted on the message boards and will remove messages that are considered offensive. Because this is a manual process, offensive messages may not be removed immediately but will be removed in a reasonable time frame.

Messages posted on the GAA message boards are the views of the author of the message only and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of the GAA.

Users of the GAA message boards should use common sense when posting messages. Messages will be viewable by the registered users of the GAA Online Community and users should use caution when providing personal information. Users of the message boards agree not to post anything defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexual, threatening, invasive of a person’s privacy, or otherwise in violation of law and further agree to be solely responsible for and hold the GAA harmless in the event of any claim based on or arising out of their message. Any viewer who finds a message objectionable should contact us immediately by e-mail. Messages that are posted for advertising purposes to promote the buying, selling or trading of any commercial product, service or item are not permitted. Posts containing personal advertisements, such as want ads, personal items or events are allowed.

While it is impractical to list every possible violation of our policies, the above should be used as guidelines. If the GAA determines that a user’s participation in the message boards creates a potential liability for the GAA or that the user has violated the policies set forth herein, the GAA reserves the right, in its sole and unfettered discretion, to take actions against the user. Those actions may include deleting or editing any postings and/or comments as well as the right to expel a user and deny a user further access to the message boards and/or the GAA Online Community if such user violates these policies or any applicable laws or regulations.

To report abuses or violations of this policy, send an e-mail to: gaa-online@unc.edu.
