Alston Gardner ’77 of Chapel Hill was elected vice chair, and Sallie Shuping-Russell ’77 of Chapel Hill is the board’s new secretary. All were elected on Thursday; none of the three is new to the board.
Caudill is co-founder of Magellan Laboratories Inc., and Carolina’s analytic chemistry building bears his name. Gardner is a venture partner in Fulcrum Equity Partners. Shuping-Russell is managing director of the investment firm BlackRock.
Five new trustees have joined the 13-member board: Jefferson W. Brown ’81 of Charlotte, Haywood D. Cochrane Jr. ’70 of Elon, Charles G. Duckett ’82 of Winston-Salem, Kelly Matthews Hopkins ’95 of Charlotte and Dwight D. Stone ’73 of Greensboro.
A sixth new board member is senior Christy Lambden of Somerset, England, who was sworn in May 23 to fill the ex officio seat held by Carolina’s student body president.
