Chancellor Search Committee to Hold Forums

The search committee seeking a successor for Chancellor James Moeser will hold forums Oct. 26 and 30 for people to share opinions about what they hope to see in the next chancellor.

Members of the search committee want to hear opinions about the qualifications needed in the next chancellor. The forums are open to anyone, but the search committee has designated the Oct. 26 forum for alumni, local elected officials and local residents. The Oct. 30 forum will target faculty, staff and students.

Moeser announced in late September that he would step down June 30.

Approximate times have been designated for the various groups to help the search committee organize the comments and suggestions offered by speakers. Preference will be given during each time period to representatives of the group scheduled for that period, but others will have the opportunity to speak if there is unused time remaining at the end of a scheduled session. Speakers should arrive ahead of time to sign up.

Following are details about each forum:

Oct. 26, 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.:

Dogwood Room at the William and Ida Friday Continuing Education Center. Parking will be available at the Friday Center. The following times have been designated:

1 p.m. UNC Board of Visitors and General Alumni Association.

1:30 p.m. Officers of the University’s affiliated foundations.

2 p.m. UNC alumni.

2:30 p.m. Local elected officials and local residents.

3 p.m. Members of the public.

Oct. 30, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Chancellor’s Ballroom at The Carolina Inn. The following times have been designated:

1 p.m. Members of the UNC faculty.

2 p.m. UNC staff.

3 p.m. Undergraduate, graduate and professional students.

If an additional forum is needed, it will be scheduled for Nov. 2.

“These forums are an opportunity for people to share ideas and thoughts about the next chancellor directly with members of the search committee in a face-to-face setting,” said search committee chair Nelson Schwab III ’67. “We want to hear from people with opinions about the qualities and qualifications the next chancellor should have. It’s an important part of this process.”

Anyone unable to attend the forums may send opinions as well as nominate candidates by sending an e-mail message to chancellor_search@unc.edu or writing to Chancellor Search Committee, P.O. Box 229, Chapel Hill, NC 27514-0229.

More information about the search and details about the committee are available online.
