Carolina Alumni is thrilled to unveil The Oral History Project, an opportunity for alumni to reminisce and share cherished memories from their time at Carolina.
In collaboration with our trusted partner, PCI, we are diligently updating University records and ensuring your Carolina story is accurately captured. PCI will reach out to you through email and postcards, and you’ll call in to verify your University record and share your story. Rest assured, PCI’s communication is legitimate and serves as a vital link in maintaining our close-knit community of more than 363,000 #CarolinaAlumni, while preserving Tar Heel experiences for generations to come.
This is our opportunity to listen to and preserve your cherished Carolina stories. Through our collaboration with PCI, our trusted partner in this endeavor, a dedicated associate will be connecting with all alumni through email and postcards to ensure their contact details are up-to-date on their University record. Alumni will be invited to engage in interview-style conversations where they can share their remarkable Carolina stories and memories. These narratives will be meticulously recorded, transcribed and refined for publication. The culmination of this effort will be a cherished keepsake, Hark the Sound of Tar Heel Voices, a book that will also include alumni-contributed photographs. This exclusive book will be made available for Carolina Alumni members to purchase.
Carolina Alumni has a contractual agreement with PCI that states:
An up-to-date database of all alumni benefits the entire University in many ways. It also is invaluable for helping us keep you up-to-date with Carolina news and events. And, all of our Tar Heel stories will be collected and preserved for years to come.
The Oral History Project kicks off April 2024. The project will be completed and keepsake books mailed May 2025.
If you have received a postcard or an email with a telephone number, you may call the number to speak with a dedicated representative for the Oral History Project. The representative will verify all the information we have on file for you, make any updates where needed, and then ask you to share your story about your time at Carolina. Your story will be recorded, and the sound clip provided to the alumni association at the conclusion of the project.
If you have received an email with an embedded link, you may go to the online site to review your information and submit a story.
The only information included in the book is your name, class year and degree, along with your story and photo. No contact information is printed. When you call to update your contact information, it will only be used to update your alumni record for the school/alumni association. You may revoke consent for your story and/or photo to appear any time before Oct. 25, 2024 by contacting PCI’s customer service help desk at (800) 982-1590 or customerservice@publishingconcepts.com.
You can call back at any time before Oct. 25, 2024 to share your story.
You will receive an email with a link to upload one photo (black and white or color) plus a caption. If you have also purchased a book but do not have an email address on file, you will be sent a photo mailer to send a physical photo in to be printed (note: the photo will be returned if you include a self-addressed, stamped envelope).
The keepsake book is available for Carolina Alumni members to purchase.
Call in, and you will no longer receive emails or postcards related to this project.
Call the PCI customer service help desk at (800) 982-1590, and they will take care of this for you.
