2017 Black Alumni Reunion Schedule

Whether you’re a Black Pioneer, current student, young alumnus or have been attending BAR since the 80s,  the planning committee is most certain there is an event for you. For event information, click the dates below.

Thursday, Oct. 26

6 p.m.
Student Alumni Dinner and Networking Event, The Friday Center
Tickets: $40; GAA members pay only $25

The Student Alumni Dinner and Networking Session connects alumni and current students. Prior to dinner there will be a networking session that will allow students to engage registered alumni and to hear about their Carolina and professional work experiences.

Friday, Oct. 27

9 a.m.
BAR Golf Tournament, UNC Finley Golf Course
Tickets: $130

This year’s tournament will take place at UNC Finley Golf Course. The tournament price includes practice balls, green and cart fees and lunch. A portion of each golf fee will be donated to the Light on the Hill Society Scholarship.

 3–6 p.m.
Day Party, Top of the Hill Restaurant and Brewery (TOPO)
Complimentary; no registration required

In collaboration with The Inside Job NC, this complimentary event is sure to get the BAR weekend off to an exciting start.

3–8 p.m.
Registration, Sheraton Chapel Hill, Main Lobby

Attendees who pre-registered can pick up their event tickets, football tickets and apparel. We will need written authorization for someone other than you to pick up your packet (no exceptions). Authorization can be sent to bar@unc.edu.

5:30–6:30 p.m.
Morehead-Cain Alumni Reception, Sheraton Chapel Hill, Paris Room

The Morehead-Cain Alumni reception welcomes all alumni and current scholars of the program to gather and connect.

5:30–6:30 p.m.
Light on the Hill Society Scholarship Awards Silent Auction, Sheraton Chapel Hill, Europa Ballroom

As you connect with fellow alumni and meet this year’s scholars and award recipients, peruse the various items up for bidding. Proceeds go directly to the scholarship fund.

6:30–9 p.m.
Light on the Hill Society Scholarship Awards Gala, Sheraton Chapel Hill, Europa Ballroom
Tickets: $80 (if available)

This year’s gala will highlight the many accomplishments of this year’s BAR award recipients and 2017 Light on the Hill Society Scholars. Attire: Cocktail, black-tie optional. Email bar@unc.edu for information on sponsoring a table (table seats eight, $1,000).

10 p.m.–2 a.m.
Blue Swagger Party, Hickory Tavern
Tickets: $25

This one’s just for us. Calling all alumni from the classes of the 90s and 00s. Blue Swagger is once again the epitome of nostalgia, taking us back to when we didn’t mind breaking a sweat on the dance floor.

Saturday, Oct. 28

9 a.m.
BAR Shuttle (maximum capacity has been reached, no tickets will be sold on site).

The BAR shuttle will run continuously between the Sheraton Chapel Hill and the Bell Tower.  First shuttle will leave the Sheraton Chapel Hill at 9 a.m. and will run continuously between the Sheraton Chapel Hill and the Bell Tower until 60 minutes after the end of the football game.

9 a.m – 12 p.m.
Registration Packet Pick Up, George Watts Hill Alumni Center

Didn’t pick up your registration packet on Friday? Visit us at the Alumni Center to pick up your packet that will include game tickets and apparel.

9 – 11:15 a.m.
Bell Tower Climb

The Morehead-Patterson Bell Tower is one of Carolina’s most beloved landmarks. Take this opportunity to climb four levels and enjoy a campus view few get to experience.

9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Tailgate Party, Bell Tower
Tickets: $25

The menu will include chopped pork barbecue, fried chicken, fried fish, baked beans, greens beans, coleslaw, hush puppies and beverages. Dessert will be provided by Favor Desserts in Durham.

12 p.m.
UNC vs. Miami, Kenan Stadium (BAR block is sold out)

NOTE: To guarantee you are sitting with specific individuals, football tickets must be purchased all together on one (1) registration form (e.g. same as if you were purchasing tickets from Ticketmaster or Live Nation). Any game tickets you purchase on your registration form will be seated together. UNC Department of Athletics requires anyone over the age of two (2) to have a game ticket to enter the stadium (sections 102 and 103). Kickoff will be announced by the ACC  7-10 business days prior to game day.

Halftime
Class of 1992 25th Anniversary: On-field Recognition, Kenan Stadium

The UNC class of 1992 will be recognized on the field during the Homecoming football game. Please note, participants must have a game ticket for field access. Guests (who are not members of the class) and children will not be allowed on the field.

10 p.m.–2 a.m.
Alumni Party, Sheraton Chapel Hill, Europa Ballroom (includes Vintage Times Party access)
Tickets: $45

Club Carolina will feature the hottest music you can handle. Enjoy signature cocktails, delectable hors d’oeuvres plus the posh ambiance of the most upscale night club you can imagine. Enhance your experience with a VIP table where you will enjoy reserved seating and complimentary drink service. A limited number of VIP tables will be available. Vintage Times Party, Sheraton Chapel Hill, Venetian Ballroom (includes Alumni Party access)

The Vintage Times Party takes on yet another flavor to entertain. We are back with comic relief and a DJ. Special sponsor packages are available to ensure you get special recognition, complimentary beverages and the best table in the house. Sunday, Oct. 29

Inspirational Service, Sheraton Chapel Hill, Europa Ballroom
Complimentary; no registration required

End your Carolina Homecoming weekend on a high note and join us for the annual BAR Inspirational Service. Get ready for an uplifting message and singing from the UNC Gospel Choir.

11 a.m.–1 p.m.
Arts Brunch, Sheraton Chapel Hill, Venetian Ballroom
Tickets: $35 (if available)

We’ll end the weekend with a tribute to the arts. This casual brunch will include great food and a performance by the Harmonyx, an a cappella subgroup of the Black Student Movement (BSM), plus a preview of the Black Pioneers Project (a performance that tells the stories of the earliest African-American students to attend UNC from 1952-72).
