Homecoming Weekend: The Greatest Rivlary on Earth

Whether you’re a Black Pioneer, current student, young alumnus or have been attending BAR since the 80s, the planning committee is most certain there is an event for you. For event information, click the dates below.

Wednesday, Oct. 23

6 – 8:30 p.m.
Student Alumni Networking Reception and Dinner, The Carolina Club
GAA Member Ticket: $30 | Standard Ticket: $45

Adjacent to the George Watts Hill Alumni Center, The Carolina Club will be the location for this annual event.  The reception and dinner will provide current students the opportunity to engage with alumni from various professional backgrounds, plus hear about their time as Carolina students.  Student attendees will purchase tickets on a separate form with student pricing. Friday, Oct. 25

8 a.m.
BAR Golf Tournament, UNC Finley Golf Course
GAA Member Ticket: $95 | Standard Ticket: $125

We’re back at Finley!  The ticket price includes practice balls, green fees, cart fees, lunch and a $25 contribution to the Light on the Hill Society Scholarship fund.

12–4 p.m.
UNC Black Greek Day Party, The Crunkleton
GAA Member Ticket: $5 | Standard: $15

The UNC Black Greeks are at it again! Start the weekend off with the 2nd annual UNC Black Greek Day Party. Join us as we commemorate milestone line and class reunions. Gather your crew, let’s reunite, fraternize and socialize. DJ Jeff Ellis will keep us grooving. Cash bar provided. Hosted by UNC Student Affairs and the BAR Planning Committee.

3–8 p.m.
Ticket and Merchandise Distribution, Sheraton Imperial Hotel, 4700 Emperor Blvd. (exit 282 off I-40), Durham

Registered participants can pick up their name tags and reunion merchandise.  Your name tag with a QR code will be used for entry in to BAR events (no tickets will be used this year).  If you purchased football tickets, those will be emailed to you beginning Oct. 18.  On-site ticket sales will also take place, pending availability.  GAA member discounts are not available for on-site ticket sales.

Summer Bridge Alumni Reception, Sheraton Imperial Hotel
No fee to attend. Registration is recommended.

Join us for a reception celebrating 39 years of Summer Bridge. In addition to reminiscing and hearing current program updates, we’ll begin early volunteer recruitment for our 40th anniversary in 2020. Cash bar and light refreshments.

Light on the Hill Society Scholarship Awards Gala, Sheraton Imperial Hotel

This year’s gala will celebrate five outstanding award receipients and nine academically gifted Light on the Hill Society Scholars. Be inspired by their accomplishments and contributions to their communities. Your support of this worth-while event will continue to uplift our present and future scholars, as well as ensure they continue to let their light shine. Tisha Powell, WTVD news anchor, will emcee this amazing event. Attire: Cocktail, black-tie optional. Email for information on sponsoring a table (price: $1,000, seats 8).

Get your laugh on! Debra Terry ‘86 is back hosting another EPIC Comedy Show featuring two side-splitting comedians, Rod Allison and Dante’ Carter. After the comedy show, it’s After Dark! It’s Homecoming so let’s hang out, reconnect our first night back and get our dance on. DJ Richie C will be there to take us on a musical journey to remember the times of Upendo Lounge and Great Hall with all of our favorite songs.

Black Pioneers Breakfast, Sheraton Imperial Hotel

Tar Heels on Ice!  UNC Black Pioneers share recollections of being jailed and other oppressive experiences off campus and on campus during the turbulent 1960s.

Stories from the Sidelines: UNC African-American Cheerleaders,
 Sheraton Imperial Hotel
There is no cost to attend. Registration is recommended.

This enrichment session will honor Carolina’s first African-American cheerleaders as well as highlight the challenges and triumphs encountered while trying out and serving on the squad. Panel members and guests will explore the evolution of UNC cheerleading and strategies to improve its inclusiveness.

BAR Shuttle
GAA Member Price: $5 | Standard Ticket: $15

The BAR shuttle will run between the Sheraton Imperial and campus (Bell Tower drop off before the game; ATM Circle pick up after the game).  Service will run for 45 minutes after the end of the football game. No tickets will be sold on site.

Bell Tower Climb

The Morehead-Patterson Bell Tower is one of Carolina’s most beloved landmarks. Take this opportunity to climb four levels to the top (terrace will not be accessible).

Tailgate Party, Bell Tower
GAA Member Ticket: $15 | Standard Ticket: $30 | Jr. Tar Heel Ticket: $15 (ages 5-12) | Toddler Tar Heels: Free/No registration needed.

The 2019 BAR Tailgate is presented by the Chapel Hill Orange County Bureau.  Menu includes: chopped pork barbecue, fried chicken, fried fish, baked beans, greens beans, coleslaw, salad, hush puppies, sweet tea, lemonade and dessert. Desserts provided by Favor Desserts in Durham. Two (2) beer tickets will be included (thanks to alumni-owned Big Boss Brewing) for each adult, 21 and over, who purchases a tailgate ticket (not included with the Jr. Tar Heel or Toddler Tar Heel tailgate tickets, and yes, we have to say that!). ID will be required for beer service.

UNC vs. Duke, Kenan Stadium
Game Tickets: $25

The BAR block will be in section 101/102 (view seating chart). Want to sit with specific individuals? All tickets will need to be purchased on one (1) registration formGame time is typically released by the ACC  7-10 business days prior to game day. Football tickets are nonrefundable.

Class of 1994 25th Anniversary: On-field Recognition, Kenan Stadium

The UNC class of 1994 will be recognized on the field during the Homecoming football game. Please note, participants must have a game ticket to enter Kenan Stadium. Guests (who are not members of the class) and children will not be allowed on the field.

Win or lose – we still party. Celebrate the Greatest Rivalry on Earth right after the game at this two-hour, family-friendly bash at the Bell Tower. Featuring a DJ, line dancing, gourmet popcorn bar, sweet treats and lawn games. Lemonade, water and two (2) beer tickets (thanks to alumni-owned Big Boss Brewing) for each adult, 21 and over, who purchases a ticket (not included with the Jr. Tar Heel or Toddler Tar Heel tailgate tickets, and yes, again, we have to say that!). ID will be required for beer service.

CODE BLUE Party, Sheraton Imperial Hotel (includes Vintage Times Live access)

We interrupt your regularly scheduled alumni party to issue a CODE BLUE Alert! This is not a test! This is not your alumni party of years’ past. The dress CODE is Carolina Blue and white – in your own, unique flair. Whether you choose dressy or comfy casual, just bring that Tar Heel swag and be ready to sweat like you did back in your college days! I repeat this is not a test! This is CODE BLUE! Must be 21 and over to attend.

End your Carolina Homecoming weekend on a high note and join us for the annual BAR Inspirational Service. Get ready for an uplifting message and singing from the BSM Alumni Choir.

Project Uplift 50th Anniversary Brunch
Standard Price: $45; GAA Member Price: $30; Jr. Tar Heel Price (age 5 – 12): $25; Toddler Tar Heels (age 4 and under): Free

You are invited to join the Project Uplift 50th Celebration Planning Committee as we celebrate fifty years of opening access, building community, and transforming the landscape of higher education. This event will provide attendees with an opportunity to reflect on Project Uplift’s past while also learning about what’s in store for the next generation of Project Uplift alumni.

The Black Pioneers will host a panel discussion on pertinent issues facing African-Americans today. Join us for this deep dive into all things Carolina.
