Embrace your physical and mental health with our Healthy Heels series, including events intended to help you feel your best, wherever you are. In the midst of our striving, achieving and doing, we  slow down and make time for ourselves. Since we know this is true, especially now, we have designed a program for you to make time for your wellness.

As we continue to find ways to navigate the ongoing impact of the pandemic in our daily lives, it is only natural to feel stressed and worried in this time of uncertainty. In order to develop the resiliency to cope with situations that to some extent are out of our control, we may realize we need new tools if our current coping strategies are no longer effective.

Click in via Zoom with Paula Huffman, certified mindfulness instructor and adjunct professor in the UNC Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, to learn how practicing mindfulness can provide us with simple and reliable strategies to enhance our lives.

 In this workshop, we will:

  • Develop strategies for using mindfulness techniques that can be practiced anywhere, anytime
  • Practice techniques that help cultivate the ability to respond from a calmer baseline to daily life events
  • Learn ways to slow the ruminating mind, thereby decreasing catastrophic thinking and its effect on our overall wellbeing
  • Enhance stress resiliency as we develop techniques for intentionally focusing on positive and pleasurable life events

Mindfulness practices we will learn in this workshop include:

  • “The Breathing Space:” Stop the stress reaction before it stops you
  • What is mindfulness? An explanation of what mindfulness is all about
  • What is your body telling you? Body scan meditation to enhance the mind-body connection
  •  Introduction to seated meditation practices
