You’re invited to learn about the ongoing collaboration of the UNC Community Histories Workshop, Capitol Broadcasting and Braswell Memorial Library to preserve the history of Rocky Mount Mills as it is redeveloped. UNC students and staff visited Rocky Mount in February for a “History Harvest” to gather oral histories, photographs and other artifacts detailing the history of the Mills. The students will return on April 25 to preview the exhibits that will eventually be on permanent display at Rocky Mount Mills. See below for a selection of the exhibits you’ll be able to enjoy throughout the evening.

Student Exhibits

These are a few of the exhibits created by UNC students that will be on display:

  • A digital touch screen map of the Mills with place markers for landmarks
  • Twenty oral histories surrounding the closing of the mills
  • A 1939 color film of the mill and mill village
  • A film projected onto the mill water tower
