Evans, Blaine Appointed to Board of Trustees

Jim Blaine ’00 and Jennifer Halsey Evans ’94 have been appointed to the UNC Board of Trustees.

Blaine, who was nominated by the North Carolina Senate, was chief of staff from 2011 to 2018 for Senate leader Phil Berger when Berger was Senate president pro temp. Blaine was also the Republican Senate caucus director for several election cycles before joining Berger’s staff. He is a partner with Martin & Blaine the Differentiators LLC, a political consulting firm he started with Ray Martin in 2019. Blaine is a former member of the UNC Board of Visitors.

Evans, nominated by the N.C. House of Representatives, is an investor and businesswoman who lives in Chapel Hill. She has served as chair of the Morehead-Cain Scholarship Fund, a trustee of the Morehead-Cain Foundation and co-chair of the $4.2 billion Campaign for Carolina. She was also co-chair of Carolina West, chair of UNC’s Board of Visitors and served as an adjunct faculty member in the department of economics.

With these two appointments, the Board of Trustees has filled its 13 slots and will hold elections for chairman and other positions within the next two weeks, Chairman Dave Boliek Jr. ’90 told the Review.

Boliek said he will not seek a third term as chairman and plans to continue in another leadership role. His term on the board expires in 2027.

“Our board is blessed with fantastic leaders who should have the opportunity to lead the board and the University,” Boliek said. “It’s been the honor of my professional life to be chair.”
