Read MoreSome of the many ways the GAA works to inform and involve Carolina’s 355,000-plus living alumni are reflected in the statistics on this page. Our volunteers and staff have long understood the GAA is fundamentally in the relationship business.
While the GAA was first organized in 1843, it wasn’t until a century ago that a permanent, full time staff was formed with the hiring of Daniel L. Grant (class of 1921) — the GAA’s first alumni secretary. Before Grant, the GAA already was publishing a magazine, maintaining alumni records, organizing class reunions, supporting local alumni chapters and encouraging former students to become association members.
