Join OBT

Thank you for your interest in Order of the Bell Tower (OBT). Current members will attest to the fact that serving the University through OBT is a very rewarding experience and allows for a more hands-on appreciation of Carolina pride and tradition. Note: The Order of the Bell Tower experience continues throughout your time at UNC so please do not underestimate the time commitment.

All current juniors, sophomores and first-year students are encouraged to apply.

Being familiar with the information below will help you prepare a better application. Please make sure you are familiar with all dates and deadlines before applying.

Ambassador Expectations

Estimated time commitment:  4-6 hours per week

Term of office: Time of selection through graduation

Members are required to attend all bi-weekly OBT meetings (Tuesday, 6:30 – 8 p.m.), all OBT leadership retreats and enrichment activities, and volunteer at OBT events. Members also must maintain membership in the Student Alumni Association.

Responsibilities of a OBT member include, but are not limited to:

  • Hosting events on and off campus throughout the year with fellow OBT members
  • Giving campus tours
  • Maintaining and creating Carolina traditions for current and future years
  • Ensuring the quality of all OBT programming and services
  • Supporting the enhancement of quality for all OBT programming and services through managing marketing materials, public relations and events planning
  • Communicating with other OBT members and GAA staff to advance projects to successful completion
  • Working collectively with other OBT members to fulfill the components of OBT programming
  • Volunteering at and managing OBT events
  • Coordinating and facilitating cross-organization collaboration with other GAA student groups to successfully execute the GAA’s mission
