UNC Crew 50th Anniversary

UNC Crew Celebrates 50 Years | March 25-27, 2022

Dear Fellow Rowing Alumni and Friends,

In February of 1970, we received our first two shells. Rowing had officially come to Carolina. Five decades later, rowing at Carolina continues to flourish. Between three distinct crew programs, nearly 2,000 men and women have bent an oar at University Lake.

We invite all rowing alumni to Chapel Hill to celebrate UNC Crew’s golden anniversary the weekend of March 25-27, 2022. We want to celebrate our rowing past, present and future.

Why should you attend? We want to bring together every person who has been touched by the three UNC Crew programs in the last fifty years – previous rowers, coxswains, coaches, friends and families of UNC Crew. Remember what it was like when we were all younger versions of our current selves? We may not be in as good of shape now, but our individual narratives have grown. Your teammates all want to hear your story, relive past glories, shake your hand or give you a hug. Once connected by the oar, now connected for life.

Our event attendance goal is lofty. We want to welcome back 500-800 of the known 1,600+ alumni for whom we have contact information. We hope you will assist us in spreading the word to your peers, particularly if you see their names are absent from our rowing honor roll.

The weekend will be full of activities. We are planning a family-friendly alumni regatta, informal gatherings on Franklin Street, an anniversary banquet and a meeting of the Crew Alumni Association.

This event will be special, so we’re counting on you to reach out to those who made a difference in your life. Please join us in Chapel Hill on March 25-27, 2022.
