Chair’s Greetings

Greetings BAR Heels,

It’s with great pleasure and deep respect that I serve as your 2024 BAR chair. As always, we’ll gather for a celebration of heritage, achievement and the indomitable Carolina spirit that unites us all. This year’s reunion is extra special as we celebrate the legacy of Carolina’s first Black graduate, Harvey Elliot Beech ’52 (LLB). Mr. Beech would’ve turned 100 this past March. In honor of his life, we’ll renew our commitment to mentorship, education and creating opportunities for those who come after us.

The legacy of resilience, determination and excellence that defines our Black alumni community is a source of inspiration and motivation. We celebrate not only the achievements of the past but also the journey that has led us to this moment—a moment of unity, reflection and shared purpose.

As we celebrate our shared heritage and accomplishments, let’s rekindle the flame of commitment within our hearts. The journey of progress is ongoing. With each passing reunion, we can reinforce our dedication to making a lasting impact. Our strength lies not just in our individual achievements, but in our collective ability to drive positive change.

Together, we can continue to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes and create a world where every individual, regardless of their background, can thrive. In celebrating, let us also recognize the responsibility we bear to uplift and empower the generations that follow. Let’s make this year’s reunion a catalyst for continued excellence and empowerment.

If you have yet to attend BAR, consider joining the celebration for the first time. If you haven’t attended in a while, dust off your Carolina blue and join the celebration. If you attend BAR every year, we can’t wait to see you in October.

Go Heels!
