The American Civil War is typically regarded as the first major world event that was “observed” by the general public while it occurred. No question, photographers helped to make that possible but so did numerous talented artists—both for the sake of art and for newspapers and magazines of the period. This session will deal with many of them and their works and we’ll, also, include those that today make Civil War art big business.
Lecturer: Fred W. Kiger ’74 (’77 MAT) leads our Civil War battlefield study programs and teaches several GAA courses each semester. He is the creator of the field guide The Civil War: A History of the War Between the States (Workman) and has two degrees from UNC, a bachelor’s in history and a master of arts in teaching with an emphasis in history.

Tuition is fully refundable for any cancellation made three weeks prior to the class. Any cancellation after that time is subject to a 50 percent fee. No tuition is refunded if the cancellation is made within 24 hours of the class.
Changing Classes: We will be happy to accommodate class change requests made within five business days prior to the class.
Refunds for field-study trips:
All cancellations for any reason whatsoever will be subject to a $50 per person cancellation fee. Cancellations made after August 30, 2014 will result in a 100 percent forfeiture of the entire cost of the trip, unless you are able to find someone else to book the trip in your place.
Please note: Class dates may change due to unforeseen scheduling conflicts. If you are unable to attend the rescheduled date, tuition will be refunded in full.
