It was a time when U. S. Grant had all Federal armies on all fronts on the move.  While the December Battle of Nashville may have been the most militarily significant during this time period, there was plenty of fighting in the political realm as well. This session highlights decisions, elections, actions and personalities that set the table for the final campaigns that followed in the spring of 1865.

Lecturer: Fred W. Kiger ’74 (’77 MAT) leads our Civil War battlefield study programs and teaches several GAA courses each semester. He is the creator of the field guide The Civil War: A History of the War Between the States (Workman) and has two degrees from UNC, a bachelor’s in history and a master of arts in teaching with an emphasis in history.

Please call Douglass Payne at 919-962-0313 to register over the phone for classes or the field-study trip, or mail in your completed registration form (below).
