The High Graduate Scholarship was created by the Joseph Cooley High ’76 and Kathleen Cullins High ’78 Endowment. The is the first graduate award in the Light on the Hill Society family of scholarships. The award is $3,000 and will support deserving Black graduate and professional students attending UNC Chapel Hill. It is need-based and renewable for up to three years provided the recipient remains in good academic standing with the University and maintains enrollment as a degree seeking student in an accredited graduate or professional program.

Created in 2023, the Light on the Hill Society Doctoral Student Summer Research Support Grant, is a one-time $5,000 grant that will be used to provide summer research support funds to Black doctoral students who are all-but-dissertation (ABD) in non-professional program at UNC Chapel Hill. Preference will be given to students based on the student’s demonstrated need to accomplish progress towards dissertation completion, such as travel, data gathering and analysis, living costs to support uninterrupted writing time, etc. and demonstrated positive progress towards meeting dissertation completion goals.

Applicants for the High Graduate Scholarship and LOTH Summer Research Grant can be recently admitted or currently enrolled gradaute students.
